Terry cloth and smooth cotton, knitted yarn, cork, pebbles - do-it-yourself bath mat can be made from different materials and in different ways.

1. Striped bath towel made of terry towels

Such a rug will absorb water well thanks to the material from which it is sewn, and rather frequent parallel lines with a “zigzag” give it sufficient rigidity. The main charm of this particular rug is the emphasized unevenness of the stripes that make it look like a zebra skin. For the rug you need two terry towels. From one (in this example - light) cut several uneven stripes. From the same towel, cut out the rectangular part of the bottom layer of the mat, from the second towel of a different color - the second same detail. First stitch the strips with a fairly frequent zigzag, following the irregularities of the strips. Then fold the two layers of the mat face inward, sew, leaving a hole for turning out, twist and sew the hole. The edge can be stitched.

3. Patchwork bath mat + towel decoration

The bath mat can also be made using the patchwork technique. Sew the upper part of the rug from the patches, and the lower part can be made, for example, from a towel or terry cloth, as in the master classes above. Mosaic patchwork stripes can also decorate bath towels - you get a set.

4. Knitted yarn bath mat

For this rug, you first need to knit several of the same length of long stripes. Knitted yarn is preferable, since cotton knitwear is soft and hygroscopic, plus - this yarn is so thick that you can knit from it directly with your hands. The function of a loom can be performed by a board with two rows of nails driven from two opposite edges. Pull a strong thread between the nails and weave the mat, knotting the places where the strips meet.

5. Bath mat sewn from fabric pigtail

Such a rug can also be made from old toweling towels. Pick up several towels of harmonious colors, cut them lengthwise into equal strips 2-3 cm wide. Sew the three strips together and start weaving the pigtail, adding the strips to a new length when the previous one ends. It should be a long braid. Now you need to fold a spiral from it and sew the layers with a zigzag or manually to make a round carpet.

Striped Mat

An important point for all fabric rugs:

If your bathroom has smooth tiles on the floor, you can protect the mat from slipping by adding a non-slip rubber backing net (sold in hardware stores) from the bottom. The mesh can be glued or sewn.

6. Bath mat made of pebbles

If you (or your children) like to collect smooth pebbles on the sea or river banks, as a result of which you have a certain supply of suitable stones - smooth, flat, not very small, you can make a bath mat from them. (By the way, if there is no sufficient supply of pebbles in the house, you can buy it, for example, in a store for landscape design products.) A rubber mat of a suitable size is used as the basis, glue is also needed that can be used to glue both rubber and stone.

7. Bath mat from wine bottle corks

Having accumulated a sufficient number of corks from wine bottles, you can make such a tactilely nice and cute rug. As a basis, you can use, for example, a piece of linoleum or a ready-made rubber mat. Corks are cut in half lengthwise and glued with cuts down to the base with strong glue.

8. Wooden bath mat trimmed with cork

You can assemble such a rug from wooden planks yourself or buy a ready-made one in a hardware store. The main point here is the top cork coating, which gives those very pleasant tactile sensations: getting up barefoot on such a rug is very nice! Use a sheet cork (it is sold in hardware stores) or a cork cloth. Cut the material into strips of the right size and glue it to the wooden base.
