You will need:

  • Natural white fabric, for example, like this:
  • Baking soda or mild detergent
  • Plastic bag
  • 5-8 avocados
  • Large pan
  • Wooden spoon

Step 1

Prepare your fabric by rinsing it thoroughly with soda or a mild detergent. Pack a clean but still damp cloth in a plastic bag or container so that it does not dry before dyeing.

Step 2

Cut the avocado and take out the seeds with a spoon. Rinse gently so that no pulp remains on them.

Step 3

Pour water into the pan so that it subsequently completely covers your tissue (given that some of the water will boil away during the preparation of the broth). Place the bones in the water (the more you add, the more saturated the color will be).

Step 4

Bring to a boil, and then reduce the heat. Within an hour, the water will turn pinkish-orange, then darken to wine. Continue to cook the bones until the broth is saturated.

Step 5

Turn off the stove and remove the bones and any residues with a wooden spoon. If necessary, you can strain the broth, and then pour it back into the pan.

Step 6

Put the damp cloth in the pan, it is important that it is completely immersed in the broth. Gently stir until the fabric is flattened in the liquid, and then leave to soak. The longer it lies in the broth, the more saturated the color. For a light pink shade, 30-60 minutes are enough, for a saturated leave the fabric in the broth for the night.

Step 7

When you decide what shade suits you, remove the cloth from the pan and gently squeeze the moisture out. Hang or spread out to dry naturally. When the fabric dries, rinse in cold water or wash with a phosphate-free detergent. Dry again in a natural way.

A few tips:

1. Always carefully wash the flesh from the seeds - it affects the quality of the decoction.

2. Do not boil the bones on too high a fire, otherwise the broth may turn brown and you will not get a pink tint.

3. Water quality may affect the color of the decoction. If pink stubbornly fails, try measuring the pH of the water and experimenting with it.

4. The avocado variety will also influence the hue, so it can sometimes be useful to change the store.

5. Do not rush to prepare a decoction or soak the fabric.Natural dyes take time.
