Such an application can decorate a napkin, potholder, bag and so on.

To make such a nice applique, you don’t need a sewing machine: all seams are done manually. In this case, the details are smooth due to the use of paper templates, which are then removed. Using hexagons as pieces of a mosaic, you can make a small cactus or a large one - as you like.

DIY applications-inscriptions

You will need:

- flaps of fabric for application;

- paper, ruler, pencil, paper scissors for templates;

- pencil or crayon for fabric;

- scissors for fabric;

- needle for hand sewing;

- threads for sewing in the color of fabric and floss for decorative seams;

- if desired - a paper-based adhesive stabilizer;

- iron.

Life hack: neat applique on knitwear with embroidery paper

Step 1

Make a sketch of your drawing and determine how many hexagonal parts you need and what their size will be. All parts must be the same, in the form of regular hexagons. For a cactus flower, divide the hexagon in half. Cut out as many patterns from paper as planned fabric parts. According to the patterns, cut out the details from the fabric, adding 1 cm allowances.

In the center, on each part, from the inside, place the paper template and, in turn, bend the allowances on the wrong side and iron them.

Step 2

Fasten the allowances with thread as shown in the photo.

Step 3

Sew the parts in the desired sequence by hand in a blind seam. To make the seams smoother, do not remove the patterns.

After completing all the seams, delete the patterns. After that, you can further strengthen the seams from the inside with an adhesive stabilizer.

Step 4

Place the applique on the main fabric. If your stabilizer is two-sided, you can iron the application.

Sew the detail of the pot with a floss seam forward with a needle in small stitches. Detail of the cactus - small stitches over the edge, so you get "thorns". Done!
