Basic coats of spring 2019: trends and antitrends

Sewing a coat is a thorough matter, I want to choose a model that will be exactly in fashion for the next 3-5 years. Today we’ll talk about trends and anti-trends in relation to the base coat.

“February is the most useless month of the year. Who needs winter after the New Year? Personally, I take off all my winter clothes and start to wear my coat,” my good sewing friend recently said, and I couldn’t disagree with her and at the same time be glad that such seasoned girls live in Krasnoyarsk! In Moscow, sometimes even in April I still don’t remove my fur coat, though I wear it rather in the manner of Carrie Bradshaw - casually draped over her shoulders in combination with shoes! April and October, for that matter, are the only months when we can dress like Italians in our sunny Italy in January. And yes, I envy them.

The most interesting thing remains - to decide on the model! But first, let's agree that today we will only talk about the so-called base coats. They are neutral in style and are suitable for girls of absolutely any age. It is in such coats that it is easiest to look stylish and modern, and they are also easy to combine with any things in your wardrobe.

Before moving on to the current basic models, let's see which coats should not be sewn if you want to get an “all-time” thing that will definitely look relevant (in the sense of appropriate time, rather than trendy or vice-versa) now and in the next few 5 years.

Try to avoid the details and shapes that make us vintage. This applies to complex forms of the collar (racks, wide “shawls”, turn-down and rounded collars), as well as its absence (yes, the round neck is also easy to cool to the retro style); as well as an O-shaped or vice versa highly fitted coat silhouette.

What then to sew?

Over the past few years, we have sewed and wore oversize coats a lot. Some already liked them, but some didn’t, but so far the topic of increased volume remains relevant.

Just do not forget, it is better to sew such oversized models from sufficiently plastic and thin coat materials, especially if it seems to you that voluminous coats can visually spoil the impression of the figure. You can safely add a belt to such models, it helps to restore the figure's proportions and look more feminine. This coat looks perfect in midi length.

Models without a belt will look great in length to the knee or just below the knee. On such coats you can choose a slightly more dense fabric.

And here is great news for girls who are not imbued with warm feelings for voluminous things! Coats with a set-in sleeve of a semi-adjacent silhouette of a straight cut are rapidly gaining polarity! And although they, in general, did not go anywhere, but the looks with such coats look especially fresh.

A huge plus of this model is that it will sit on absolutely any figure, taking into account its features in a cut: girls with a large bust are better off choosing patterns in which reliefs are provided. In this case, visually the coat will also have a straight cut, but in fact it will slightly adjust to the shape of your body and will not add unnecessary volume and weight to the figure. Another advantage of this cut is that you can choose any length: from the middle of the thigh to the maxi, without fear that the coat will visually reduce your height and “crush” to the ground, as is often the case with oversized coats, especially for girls with short growth.

Double breasted or single breasted? Choose the one you like personally! Both models are equally relevant. There is only one nuance that concerns comfort rather: in double-breasted coats it is usually warmer due to the deeper smell of the sides, so it makes sense to choose just such a cut in early spring.

By the way, it’s not at all necessary to wait for heat to start wearing a coat, because now in stores there is an excellent choice of thin heaters that will help make the thing warmer, so that it would be comfortable to wear at temperatures below minus 10. So the beginning of March could certainly be a debut your new coat.

And right now, and until the end of February, you can buy any coat pattern at half price! I think this is an occasion to immediately take a couple - a coat does not happen much!
