Chanel-style fabrics are so diverse that each species requires a specific approach. For example, the choice of method for processing open sections may be dictated by the fabric itself.

A pronounced or smooth texture, a dense or loose fabric, dimensional stability or its absence is an inexhaustible source of ideas and inspiration primarily for solving such a sewing task as processing open sections of a product from fabrics in the Chanel style.

In this master class, I will show an “open” way of processing the neckline, armhole and bottom of a dress made of Chanel-style fabric. Earlier, I used a similar method, but using an additional braid with fringe along the neckline and the bottom of the dress as a stabilizer.

How to weave a chanel-style galun: two easy ways

Step 1

Cut out the details of the dress with 2 cm allowances in all sections.

In this case, the width of the allowances along the neckline, armhole and bottom of the product = the width of the decorative processing is fringe.

Step 2

Set the stitch length to 3.5 on the sewing machine.

Step 3

Lay a straight stabilizing line along the neckline, armhole and bottom of the product at a distance of 2 cm from the edge.

Step 4

Set the zigzag stitch on the sewing machine with the following values:

stitch width 2.0

1.5 stitch length

Step 5

Cover the straight stitch with a small zigzag stitch, laying it at the same distance from the edge (2 cm) exactly over the straight stitch. It will additionally fix the threads in the fabric and hold the fringe in place during the wear of the product.

Important! Select the threads that are most suitable for the fabric by tone.

Step 5

Stitch the details of the dress.

Step 6

Using a crochet hook or thick needle, loosen the bottom of the product by removing the threads exactly to the fixing stitch.

Step 7

Along the line of the middle of the neck of the front, lift the loose threads (located along) and cut them.

Using a crochet hook, fluff the threads along the neckline of the front. Since the neckline, in contrast to the bottom line of the dress, is not straight, but curved, the fringe threads are unequal in length.

Step 8

Cut the fringe along the neckline of the front. Control the width of the fringe with a ruler for marking allowances.

Step 9

In the same way, fluff over the fringe the neckline of the back and armhole. Cut the width of the fringe.

For all open cuts processed, the fringe should be equal in width. In this case, 2 cm.

This is a very simple way of processing open sections of armholes, the neckline and bottom of a dress made of Chanel-style fabrics.

The most important thing in the so-called "open" processing is the fixing line, since no other additional stabilizing measures are applied in this case.
